Rewind With "The Life and Times of Dwight D. Eisenhower" (1956)
History in ultraphonic high fidelity!
“Re-live the events of the last sixty years, visit the places, talk with the people, take part in the history of the times, and you will have the story of IKE FROM ABILENE. For this is a biography, not only of the man Eisenhower, but of the world we have made ... the only focus through which the Eisenhower story could be fully told.”
You never know what you’ll find at an antique shop. Today, I’m sharing with you a recording of the 1956 record, “The Life and Times of Dwight D. Eisenhower.” Narrated by Academy Award winner Henry Fonda (12 Angry Men, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Grapes of Wrath), the record tells the story of the 34th President of the United States, from his childhood in Abilene, Texas, to his time as a General of the U.S. Army, to the Oval Office. Pressed onto vinyl during an election year, there hadn’t seemed to be any recording of it online, so I decided to make one of my own in an amateur effort of preservation. With today being little removed from the 80th anniversary of D-Day, in which Eisenhower served as the U.S. Army’s Supreme Allied Commander, enjoy Fonda’s iconic voice in this telling of one of the most important Americans of World War II.
